This system is used in rolling mills for steel rod and allows the process to run continuously. Individual 2 tonne coils are loaded onto a walking beam, at the end of which is a wapping arm which uncoils and feeds the rod to the process in a flying arm operation. The coils are joined by the use of powered mechanical manipulators which load a but welding machine. Subsequent coils are joined together and transferred towards the pay-off end with powered trolleys.
