A recent trend in the Wire Industry is that cable manufacturers and wire producers have been forced to downsize their engineering departments in response to economic demands. Consequently, a fully resourced engineering department is now quite rare.

When a major project comes along – for example installing new process lines or refurbishing and upgrading existing lines – it is often difficult to recruit extra staff with any industry experience or process knowledge to man the project. Recruited or agency staff can effectively slow down the department, as the permanent engineers train-up the newcomers or supervise work.
